Today marked the inauguration of someone considered to be the first African-American to be president...for the 2nd time. It's also the day we recognize another African-American: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We discussed him to some extent last week. This Tuesday we will discuss him in greater detail so my students don't believe it was a "fair" day or another day off from school. (Yes, I have taught students who thought they got a special day off just to go to the South Florida Fair. :) )
This week's homework will NOT have a cover sheet. :( The USB drive that I have it saved on is inaccessible. If possible, I'll send it home on WEDNESDAY. (If time is REALLY on my side I'll get it done and send it home on Tuesday.) Please remember that just because my homework isn't stapled together or there isn't a cover sheet DOESN'T MEAN that it isn't a packet.
One change: spelling section on this site has changed. Look HERE. Please look around. I've added some items and I'm now using a blog-style page. Homework can be found there as well as tips to help your child. You can use the tic-tac-toe board OR print out some of the activities (writing words, writing sentences, etc...). You can already see this coming week's words. PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR CHILD SEE THEM BEFORE I GIVE THE PRE-TEST.
I am almost done with all of my students' Running Reading Records. In a private email I will let you know your child's independent level and where he/she started from. (This is for my 'old' students. I won't be testing 'new' students.) Students should ALWAYS do homework at their independent level. Instructional levels are for learning with the teacher in a small group setting. In addition, I'm going to attach a book from the site ReadingA-Z.com and material from VocabularyA-Z.com. It will be at your child's INSTRUCTIONAL level. Please feel free to use it for extra reading, the daily reading, etc.... If you never use them within a month's time I would appreciate a quick note and I'll stop sending them to you (if I see they're worth sending them after the first go-around). If I continue it your child will get them about 2-3x per month. This is a supplement, not a mandate.
Early Release this Thursday! That's all for now! Thanks!
